What the results mean
Your hourly rate is the headline number — it is what most U.S. job postings, freelance gigs, and overtime rules are based on. The other figures simply repackage the same annual salary into the pay periods employers actually use:
- Daily assumes a 5-day work week (weekly pay ÷ 5).
- Weekly and biweekly are the two most common U.S. pay schedules.
- Monthly is handy for budgeting against rent, subscriptions, and other monthly bills.
Remember: these are gross figures. Taxes and deductions come out before money hits your bank account.
How it works
The calculator divides your salary into smaller and smaller time slices:
- Hourly: annual salary ÷ (hours per week × 52 weeks).
- Weekly: annual salary ÷ 52. Biweekly: ÷ 26. Monthly: ÷ 12.
- Daily: weekly pay ÷ 5.
Changing "hours worked per week" only affects the hourly rate — a $60,000 salary is worth more per hour if you work 32 hours a week than 50.
Formula
Example
Example: $75,000 salary at 40 hours/week
- Hourly: $75,000 ÷ 2,080 = $36.06
- Weekly: $1,442 · Biweekly: $2,885 · Monthly: $6,250
- The same $75,000 at 32 hours/week would be $45.07/hour — fewer hours, higher hourly value.
Use cases
- Comparing job offers — a $65,000 offer at 40 hrs/week vs. $60,000 at 35 hrs/week: the second pays more per hour.
- Freelance rate setting — convert a target salary into the hourly rate to quote clients.
- Negotiating a raise — translate a $5,000 raise into hourly terms ($2.40/hr at full-time).
- Part-time planning — see what dropping to 30 hours/week does to your effective hourly pay.
Frequently asked questions
How do you convert salary to hourly pay?
Divide your annual salary by the number of hours you work per year. For a full-time job that is 40 hours per week × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. So a $60,000 salary equals $60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 per hour.
Does this calculator include taxes?
No. The results show gross pay — your earnings before income tax, Social Security, Medicare, and any deductions. Your take-home (net) pay will be lower depending on your tax situation.
How many working hours are in a year?
A standard full-time schedule of 40 hours per week × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours per year. Part-time schedules use fewer hours, which is why this calculator asks for your weekly hours.
What about overtime pay?
This calculator assumes straight-time pay for all hours. In the U.S., non-exempt employees typically earn 1.5× their hourly rate for hours over 40 per week under the Fair Labor Standards Act — that extra is not included here.
Is the result exact?
It is a close estimate. Real paychecks vary with unpaid time off, bonuses, pay-period rounding, and state-specific rules. Use it for planning and job-offer comparisons.
I don't live in the US — can I still use this?
Yes. The salary-to-hourly math works in any country — just enter your annual pay in your own currency. Only the US-specific notes on this page (like the overtime law mention) won't apply to you.
